August has always felt like two seasons arguing in the same month. One week you’re out for a spontaneous evening, the next you’re buying school supplies and eyeing autumn outfits, and somewhere in between the light starts to change. I make my list every year, and this month has always been the best one of the year for a trivia night.
So I built this one to feel like an end-of-summer challenge rather than an exam. Two hundred August trivia questions and answers, moving from easy to hard but never into trivia-host territory. How to use these August trivia questions
Give yourself one point for every correct answer and keep a running total until the score guide at the bottom. The answer sits right under each question, so there’s no separate answer key to hunt for and no losing your place.
For a quick family, classroom, or office game, pull twenty questions from different sections. A longer August trivia night works with five rounds of ten, and you can also work through all 200 in order to see how far you get before the connection round at the end.

- August didn’t get its extra day just because Augustus wanted a month as long as July. That story appears in many trivia collections, but the calendar history is more complicated: Sextilis already had 31 days before it was renamed.
- The famous mid-August meteor shower comes from debris left by Comet Swift-Tuttle. Earth passes through that debris stream every year, producing the bright streaks you can see across the sky in August.
- The official parchment copy of the Declaration of Independence wasn’t signed on July 4 by everyone whose name appears on it. Most delegates signed on August 2, 1776.
- The Louvre opened as a public museum during the French Revolution, on August 10, 1793, long after the building had begun life as a fortress and royal residence.
